INSTANT SCRATCH ITS: RAINBOW CANNON

When VMLY&R Brisbane approached the 3P Studio team with a script for a tentative project for The Lott, our creatives leapt at the chance. The write-up described the excitement of playing an Instant Scratch-It as a feeling like being blasted from a cannon, through clouds of confetti rainbow into a pile of puppies. Or, if you prefer, kittens. With potential for integrating CG props into live-action scenes and live-action actors into CG scenes it read like a VFX post-house dream job. The passion and enthusiasm evident in the visual treatment won over both agency and client,
and so the Fun Cannon was born.

VFX BREAKDOWN

THE FUN CANNON

This was the central prop, featuring heavily not only in the opening sequence but also in print media after the release of the TVC. It's design was therefore tweaked and modified throughout the entire production. Design references ranged from traditional circus cannons, to historical military cannons through to absurd cartoon mortars.

The Fun Cannon's final design included a realistic carriage that would ground it in reality and leave more scope for alternate angles in print media.

Puppies & Kittens

Animated in Cinema 4D, the puppies and kittens presented a major design challenge, as it was necessary to ride a fine line between cuteness and appeal, without being seen to be directly targeting an audience too young for the product. Cute, but not too cute!
